The best candidates for tummy tucks are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that won’t respond to diet or exercise. Some women also turn to a tummy tuck after pregnancy to correct stretched abdominal muscles and skin, once they plan to no longer become pregnant.

- First we make an incision just above the pubic area to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen.
- We access the entire abdominal area for a thorough reduction in unwanted adipose tissue and skin.
- Next, we draw the underlying muscle and tissue together and stitch them to strengthen the abdominal wall.
- Final sutures are applied before moving into recovery.
About Recovery
- After surgery, your abdomen will be covered with surgical dressing.
- At home, you’ll need assistance as you return to normal daily activities. It’s important to avoid bending, lifting, or standing for extended periods of time. Driving, cooking, or shopping is often manageable after a week or two.
- You will receive more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities. Most patients take off at least two weeks of work, and full recovery can take up to six weeks.
